Krush Campers: Week 2 XC Action
Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invite
Held on the Blue-White Golf Courses of Penn State we had many of our campers speeding down the fairways. Kileigh Kane lead the State College girls to an invite win as she lead campers Jordan Reed, Lizzie Gilpatrick, Elly Haushalter, Mihret Strauss, Karsyn Kane, and Anna Kwasnica all under 21 minutes!!! Maryanne Knappenberger also made the varsity lineup for the Little Lions. Penns Valley’s Kelsey Hull continued her strong start to the season with top-30 placing in 20:43. Julia Cusatis and Sera Mazza had top-10 finishes for Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy to help the Wolves finish 5th. They were followed to the line by Kathleen Simander, Kate Youngmark, Lindsey Carmack, Myah Chappell and Camryn Eby.
The boys race had duel up front with our last two Campers of the Week in Penns Valley’s Colton Sands and Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy’s Carter Kauffman. Colton sent a message to the rest of the state and region with his first sub-16 clocking and the Invite title in 15:54. Carter finished 4th in 16:24. Many other campers had strong outings as SJCA’s Josh Hershbine almost dipped under 17 minutes in his debut 5k with a 17:01 (14th). John Brownstead was the top freshman for State High high as he crossed the line in 30th. His fellow freshmen, Ethan Morningstar (83rd) and Charles Endres (94th) added top 100 performances. Leland Calistri started off his season where he left off last fall as he was 10s within his XC personal best for his first time at the Spiked Shoe Invite.
Red, White, And Blue Classic
Pittsburgh Central Catholic’s Blake Hammer was back in action in Coach Artie’s old training grounds, Schlenley Park for the Red, White and Blue Classic. He was battling against the top freshmen in the Western Pa. He had another strong showing as he cracked 20 minutes for the first time to finish 23rd.
CRPR-NVRC All-Comers Race #1
Our Junior Campers ran very well at their first meet of the season across all of the races. Junior Camper of the Week, Ella McCrum, DOMINATED the 3k field (boys and girls0 as she was the overall winner and the only runner to break 12 minutes on the day!! Neil Maguire was the second boy and 3rd overall as he crossed the line in 12:15.
In the 4k, Henry Adams was second as he cracked 16 minutes with a strong time of 15:54 in his season debut. Jackson Bodner and Ian Savitski added third and fourth place showings.
Marlee Kwasnica started the season with a win and a quick time of 16:02 as she stuck with the leaders throughout the Oak Hall course. Brandi Carmack added a second place finish in 17:06 for strong outing to begin her 8th grade campaign. Grace Morningstar had a top-10 finish for her season debut as she cross the line in 20:14.
Week 3 Action will include Commodore Perry Invite, Gingerbread/Saucony Invitational, Juniata Valley Striders All-Comers #1, Ben Bloser Invite, Altoona Mt. Lion Invite….Soccer?!
