Track Season & Product Review
This weekend kicks off the start of the outdoor season. Currently, I am on the bus on our way to the Alabama Relays with a bus full of athletes. 14 hours on a bus to a track meet may seem a bit excessive but it truly is a great way for our team to bond and come together before the final stretch of the semester. Plus get out of the cold of Michigan this time of year. The girls are by no means fresh, they’ve had a tough month of training and are eager to finally race. I am especially excited to see our steeple chasers race; each day of practice they continue to make improvements.
I was hoping to join Ryan in racing this weekend (he will be running the 800 & 1500), but we decided an extra week of training and workouts would be best. After what was one of my toughest winters, struggling with sickness and the stress of coaching, I’ve finally had a great month of training. There’s probably no worse feeling than being out of shape, having to suck up your pride, knowing how you used to do workouts faster and with a bit more ease. However, it is as equally great feeling when you can feel your fitness returning and being able to dig a little deeper with each passing day. After a three year sabbatical from the track, I am looking forward to some races on the track in the upcoming weeks. I am a bit nervous but I am trying to keep everything in perspective this spring, as one of my major goals is to get back to being consistent.
On a different note, I got the opportunity to try some new products this week by Jack Black; their Turbo Wash Energizing Cleanser for Hair & Body and the Body Rehab Scrub & Muscle Soak. Even though Jack Black products are aimed towards men, their formulas are non-greasy and zero fuss that are great for any active individual. The Turbo Wash has rosemary, eucalyptus and juniper berry have healing principles that help aid with recovery after a tough workout. Plus the smell helps open up the nasal passages and that alone almost gives you the sense of relaxation and healing. The Body Rehab Scrub & Muscle Soak feels great after a tough workout. You can feel the eucalyptus, arnica, and shea butter relieving tension and reducing lactic acid that may be building up. It’s also great for getting rid of dry skin, particularly on runners feet. One thing is I will say that you do have to use a generous amount of this product. I really like the fact that both products in no way leave your skin feeling dry or dehydrated after a shower.
It’s been a cold and rainy week here and both products were really rejunivnating after workouts. In combination with these two products I love Jack Black’s Dragon Ice Recovery & Recovery Balm when I get out of the shower. I actually used a whole tube this product on my athletes the weekend of our conference championships, to help aid in the recovery between multiple events many of the girls were doing. Jack Black products have been great for aiding in training and recovery and so far, I’ve been pleasantly surprised and impressed. If anyone is thinking of trying these products, I would recommend them, the website is www.getjackblack.com.
Goodluck to everyone and their spring racing goals!
