Krush Campers: Week 1 XC Action

The opening weekend of cross country went well for Krush Campers as they dominated all over the State!
In the West
Blake Hammer was the #2 runner for Pittsburgh Central Catholic in his HS debut at the 47th Annual Marty Uher Invitational.
Maddison Hayes finished third at the 45th McDowell Invitational to lead the #8 Fairview Tigers to a fourth place finish.
Counselor Anna Shields was named River States Conference Runner of the week for her winning performance at the Ohio Christian University Invitational. Shields has helped the Pioneers earn their first-ever top 25 ranking with a spot at 17th in the  NAIA XC Coaches Poll.
Central PA
We saw two huge time drops at the Bear Mountain River Run.  In the MS girls race, Brandi Carmack improved by over two minutes from her 2017 performance to finish 4th! While Austin Melius dropped 91s from 2017 to run 16:43 for 14th place!

The Big Valley Invitational had our largest number of participants over the weekend. In the Varsity Girls, Jordan Reed lead the way for the fifth-ranked State College squad as she broke the tape in 19:55. She was joined in the top-10 by teammates Lizzie Gilpatrick, Elly Haushalter and Anna Kwasnica. Kelsey Hull of Penns Valley lead the Rams as she finished 5th over in 20:30. Morgan Hess started her HS career in a big way with a top-25 finished as she crossed the line in 22:14 for 23rd-place. West Branch’s Hailey Prestash continued the strong day as she grabbed 31st.

The boys varsity race saw Colton Sands start off the season as he ended it, ON FIRE. Colton dropped nearly 30s from 2017 to earn runner-up honors in 16:24.
The JV Girls race saw more State College dominance as Mihret Strauss and Karsyn Kane went 1-2 to begin the State College placing 15 runners in the top-20!! Included in that grouping was Maryanne Knappenberger (5th), Clare Connell (12th), Rachel Spenser (16th).

The JV Boys race displayed the future of State College XC as they dominated by taking eight of the top-ten spots. John Brownstead (3rd), Ethan Morningstar (7th) and Charles Endres (10th) contributed heavily. Quincy Dillard added a 73rd-place finish in his HS debut.

Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy open up at the Oakbourne Relays, where Krush Lifer, Lindsey Carmack, opened up the day with sixth place finish the JV Race.  In the Girls Varsity Relay, the Myah Chappell/Sera Mazza relay team finished 13th overall to help the Wolves finish sixth on the day. The relay team of Julia Cusatis/Camryn Eby added a 26th place finish. While Kate Youngmark and Kathleen Simander helped their relay teams finish 33rd and 36th respectively.
The  Boys Varsity Relay saw Carter Kauffman, Josh Hershbine, and Leland Calistri turn in strong splits on the day. Kauffman’s splits were in the top ten overall.
The action will continue in Week 2!
The Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational will see many Krush athletes toe the line together. The race features athletes from State College, Penns Valley, and Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy.
Many of middle and youth athletes will be open up their season at the CRPR Youth Cross Country Series Meet #1.
