“April is the cruelest month”

“APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding

Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing

Memory and desire, stirring

Dull roots with spring rain.” -TS Eliot

Though I am thankful the snow is officially all melted (for good I hope) I am still longing for spring sunshine.  We’ve been relatively lucky this spring with weather for our track meets, but getting quality workouts in cold, wind, and rain has been difficult.  Additionally, the semester is coming to a close and the girls are in the midst of their finals.  We decided as a coaching staff this week we might want to have our cameras ready as some of the girls look like they’ve stuck their fingers in an electrical socket.

We depart tomorrow for the prestigious Drake Relays, in Des Moines, Iowa.  While, Des Moines, IA may not sound like a hot bed for track and field the environment they produce is electrifying.  The fans actually know and understand track, and can actually take splits correctly.  I am looking forward to the girls having a fun and productive weekend with all the relays we are going to run.  Last year when we sent the mid-distance squad out there, I was biting my nails hoping we wouldn’t get last.  This year I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can run.  The improvements of the group have made this season a lot of fun.

In my own insanity I am going to run the Drake Relays 8k Road Race.  I have really backed down my expectations and am hoping to just get out there, push through and make a solid workout of it.  The only way to bounce back from set backs is to get hungry and jump back on the horse.

Should be a great weekend with many great races! Best of luck to everyone racing at Penn Relays (broseph) & Payton Jordan (Ryan & Rebecca)!
