MAC Conference Meet
This past weekend I spent my time at the MAC indoor conference championships in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Stealing a saying from my friend Luke Humphrey who went to Central Michigan it is neither mountainous nor pleasant, but it was a good meet and a fun weekend of races. With my wife Taryn being an assistant Western Michigan University, I get all “the perks” of being a Volunteer assistant at Western Michigan. Overall the Western woman’s squad got third overall as a team just 15 points out of first and 8 points out of second, getting four individual MAC champions along the way in the Long Jump, 400m, Weight throw, and the 3,000m. The 3k was especially exciting as it was the first MAC champion that Taryn has coached, and just an exciting race to watch overall. The distance squad as a whole did a great job scoring 37 points from the 800m on up. It is a group that is getting better every weekend, and will continue to get better this outdoor season. I will try and see if I can find some videos of the weekend to post up here but for now a picture will do.
Like I said last week, I am traveling to South Bend Indiana to compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational 5,000m at the University of Notre Dame. The field for this race looks to be pretty well stacked with about 8-10 guys entered running 14:04 or faster. My training for the past 3 months has been pointing to both this weekend and next (US 15k championships), so I am very excited to really show the hard work in training that I have been doing in a race situation. I just have one easy 200m repeat workout tomorrow before the race just to make sure everything is firing on all cylinders.
